About the movie

As the people of Iraq struggle to survive in the midst of war and food shortages in the ’90s, Saddam Hussein demands that every school in the country bake a cake to celebrate his birthday. Nine-year-old Lamia is tasked with bringing a cake to school for the president’s mandatory birthday celebration. Against a backdrop of crippling poverty and food shortages, she travels from the countryside to the city, desperately searching for the necessary ingredients.
