Sophia is a philosophy professor from an affluent family, married for ten years to the equally well-read Xavier. They have a good but sexless marriage, gradually becoming more friends than lovers. When Sophia meets the contractor Sylvain to discuss the renovation of a dilapidated chalet, it’s love at first sight, and sparks fly. However, Sylvain comes from a working-class family and has a completely different background than Sophia, causing her to doubt her own beliefs and ambitions.

This is the third feature film from the Quebec-born director and actress who gained fame for her roles in films by Denys Arcand (The Fall of the American Empire) and Xavier Dolan (Heartbeats, Laurence Anyways). Simple comme Sylvain premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard program.
