AVANS UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES

Avans University of Applied Sciences was established in 2004 as the result of the merger between Hogeschool Brabant and Hogeschool ’s-Hertogenbosch. Avans is now located in four cities: Breda, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Roosendaal and Tilburg.

Avans is home to 33,000 students who can take 50 different courses in 8 fields: Economics and Management, Healthcare, ICT, Education, Law, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Art and Design. Avans offers full-time and part-time bachelor programs, master programs and associate degree programs, as well as exchange programs in partnership with universities around the world.

Avans has been ranked in the top 3 for the past 10 years by the education guide Keuzegids Hbo 2021.

International focus and personal approach

Honoring its strong international focus and aiming for international classrooms, Avans collaborates with more than 250 highly-ranked universities and organizations from all over the world. In some Avans programs, more than half of the teaching staff and students come from abroad.

The strength of education at Avans lies in the university’s personal approach to students. All students are paired with a mentor who provides personalized study and career guidance and helps the students develop professional and generic competencies.

Applied Sciences

Avans works closely with industry leaders and to carry applied research that aims to solve a problem with a larger societal impact. At the Avans Expertise Centres, research groups collaborate to carry out practice-based studies in fields such as technical innovation, sustainability, public safety and design.

Collaboration

Avans encourages students to work, study and explore in an international business environment through collaborations such as internships, projects, exchange programs and research. In order to turn theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, students carry out assignments or research within specific organizations as interns. They can also work on a business project or case study under the guidance of Avans lecturers.

Avans lecturers carry out research together with professionals from other universities and businesses into subjects such as entrepreneurship in education, biobased energy, finance and sustainability, innovative entrepreneurship and youth and security.
